Epoxy Coating Process & Product

Epoxy Coating
Tempel has invested in state-of-the-art electrostatically assisted fluidized bed Epoxy Coating process for rotors and stators. The epoxy resins used by Tempel provide customers with:
- Strong adhesion to the metal (up to 25 N/mm2) and high mechanical compressive strength even at 300°C (compared to the use of thermoplastics or paper)
- Optimized heat conductivity from the coil to the iron core leading to longer product lifetime
- Improved cooling for a more compact construction resulting in less weight
- Permanent corrosion protection of the coated areas
- Increased stability of the product as the resin assists in keeping the laminations together, providing additional mechanical support
- Reducing vibration noise
- Higher slot fill-factor can be achieved due to the insulation in the slot without air gaps, this allows for more wire resulting in more output from the motor
- Skewed slots can be evenly coated
- Reduced inventory, several different products can be coated with one quality epoxy resin
- Recognized by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for insulation of bus bars (Electrical Spraying Application and Fluidized Bed Coating) UL 94 (V-0)
- Meet the standards of IEC 455 as integral ground insulation for coils, motors and transformers in their Electrical Insulation Systems
Coating Material Characteristics:
- Film Thickness 200 - 400μm
- Breakdown Voltage > 30 kV/mm
- Edge Coverage > 40%
- Dimensional stability on edge > 300°C
- Typically are rated class B (130°C)
Lamination Stack Size:
- Outside Diameter: 1.0" - 4.5" (25.4 - 114.3mm)
- Stack Height: 0.5" - 3.0" (12.7 - 76.2mm)
