Tempel Introduces Large Diameter Welded Seam Laminations 12/2/2009 Tempel Introduces Large Diameter Welded Seam Laminations In order to meet the needs customers requiring large motor and generator laminations, Tempel has developed a highly efficient manufacturing process for parts up to 95 inches in diameter. Formerly, we were solely able to accommodate these sizes using several lamination segments. We are proud to introduce our Welded Seam Lamination*. In this process, trapezoidal blanks are cut from steel coils and TIG welded to form a hexagon blank. The welds are planished to smooth out and reduce profile of the weld to about 0.001 weld over base material. The inner diameter and any vents or auxiliary openings are then punched out of the large hexagon. The rotor and stator are then notched on our state of the art notching equipment. After each piece is created, the welded seams are turned slightly as they are stacked so as to stagger the location of the weld. As the pieces are stacked, the seams are disoriented so as to stagger the location of the weld. The Welded Seam Lamination boasts many efficiencies and potential cost savings for our customers:
Tempel's Welded Seam Laminations will be applicable to a wide range of products including large scale generators, alternators, power transformers, industrial machines, wind generators, solar applications, traction motors, and drill rig pumps. *Patent Pending ![]() |
